Best Ski Resort Marketing 2012/13 from Mountain Collective

Skier’s New Best Friend – Mountain Collective

This blog post is part of a series dedicated to the most memorable and remarkable marketing campaigns created and executed in the 2012/13 ski season. You can read the entire article on the Ski Area Management website.

The Mountain Collective is a powerful collaboration of some of the best U.S. independent resorts, which allows skiers and riders to experience new places at an affordable rate. 16,005 acres of terrain, 104 lifts, 8 mountains, 4 states with only 1 pass, the Mountain Collective is $349 for adults and $229 for children. Those who joined the Mountain Collective received two free days and unlimited 50% off lift tickets, plus exclusive lodging deals at each of the four destinations: Alta, Aspen/Snowmass, Jackson Hole and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows. Extending the reach of this historic alliance, top-tier passholders received 50% off lift tickets at partner resorts.

“We successfully captured the imagination of mountain travel enthusiasts looking for value, flexibility and access to the best independent resorts in the world” said Christian Knapp, Vice President of Marketing at Aspen Skiing Company and one of the main visionaries behind the Mountain Collective.

This extraordinary alliance of ski resorts across the country has the potential to become the most powerful season pass in the U.S., giving people the freedom to ski wherever they way and becoming a solid competitor to conglomerate ski resorts (Vail, I’m looking at you). I’d love to see more independent ski resorts joining in the effort and similar ventures of this type in the future.

What People Thought of the Mountain Collective:

“We were fortunate to have a month available to ski. Because of the fantastic bargain that the Mountain Collective offers, we skied at 3 of the 4 Collective resorts. The Collective is unbeatable in terms of the financial deal and it was a great incentive for us to try a new ski area and ski additional days at each area. We’re looking forward to more areas joining the Collective!” – Anne R., Pennsylvania

“The first step in planning your ski season.” – Martin F., Brooklyn, NY

“We have thoroughly enjoyed the Mountain Collective pass this 2012/2013 season. We visited two new resorts as a result of this pass. It challenged our skiing ability and pleasantly forced my wife and I out of our ‘ski resort’ routine. The process at each resort we visited was smooth and easy. We look forward to seeing resorts added for next year.” – Tad and Sylvia Saunders

“The Mountain Collective Pass has been AWESOME! We used it a lot at our home resort Alta. Having the pass made the option of going to other resorts more affordable. We made it to Jackson Hole a couple of times and Aspen. It was so fun trying new resorts. My husband and I can’t wait until next year so we can start planning more ski trips!” – Hillary Taggart, SLC, Utah

“Gives you a chance to explore new sweet mountains and find good powder even if your local mountain isn’t having the best winter.” – Ryan S., San Francisco, CA

“The Mountain Collective is the skier’s new best friend…#carpeskiem.” – Matthew S., New York, New York

What do you think? Would you buy this pass?
